A New Love? [ Mark ]

Kaya had the day off from work and she had been walking through the park as she listened to her ipod as she had no idea what plans she would have later.

She was unaware of another person in the park who had seen her in the park before but never spoke to her.

What happens next?

Mark looked over at the girl,he had seen her here before.He had worked overtime with Mac at the lab almost all of last week and Mac had sent him home for the day,so he had decided to come to the park.He sighed,should he go over to her?She looked strikingly familiar from somewhere.......Flack!She reminds me of Flack!he suddenly realized.He stood and walked over to her."Uhh,hi."he said shyly.He looked down at the ground for a second."Uhmm,I've seen you around here a lot,and I..uhh...was wondering what your name was..."he paused and went on to introduce himself,"I'm Mark,Mark Caset,I'm with the crime lab."he told her.

Kaya had her headphones out, as she replied " I'm Kaya, Kaya Flack. It's nice to meet you. How's Don lately? In case you didn't know but I'm Don's cousin."

"Nice to meet you."he replied."I thought you reminded me of him."he told her.Mark thought for a moment."Flack's been fine,happy with his job."he told her.He felt akward talking about Flack.He had never really spoken about his family,then again,he didn't quite know Flack that much.

" I haven't seen him for a while, not since he sorted out something for me. I saw you a few times at NYPD when I went to see the team. You uh ok?" Kaya replied

"Ok?"asked Mark,this confused him.Did she know about the kidnapping that happened two years into his career?Surely she cou....correction,that had been on the news.Mark had learned just how much he trusted the others,and the others had learned just how much he trusted them.

" Just a simple question." kaya replied as she clearly didn't know what had happened to him a couple years ago as she was in Aspen seeing her family who she hadn't seen for quite some time.

Mark nodded and sighed inwardly,he didn't have to explain it and he didn't want too."Fine."he replied,he had a good feeling she would see right through this answer.He bit his lip slightly,that had not been a good time,but it had shown him what great friends he had at work."You,uh,wanna sit down?"he asked,seeing that standing in the middle of Central Park talking wasn't exactly usual,he nodded towards a bench and looked back to her.

Kaya spoke " I guess you like to keep things locked up and I know that Mac does it too. Even I do as well. Sure." and followed over to the bench and sat down

Mark nodded."Flack tell you that?"he asked.He smiled and laughed slightly."Mac's always been that way."he laughed again.He sighed and the smile disapeered from his face."I might as well tell you."he told her."It was just a couple of months ago....We had this case,he knew we were onto him,the killer,I was kidnapped and he asked me to help him cover up evidence in his most recent murder."Mark paused as he stared across the pack from his seat on the bench."I couldn't betray Mac,the team,I couldn't betray them like that,and so he shot me.It was about an hour later when Mac found me.I was off duty for about a month then,when I came back I stayed to the lab for awhile before a I returned to the field."he closed his eyes and then looked down at the ground.He was obviously slightly shaken from the whole rencounter."I-I'm sorry.."he stuttered as he continued staring down at the ground.

" Flack didn't tell me that and I just got the vibe but I've known Mac to be like that since he lost his wife in 9/11 and it's not an easy thing to forget but time to heal from something like this does take time and six months ago I was attacked by an ex who was such a control freak and he actually shot me in the foot twice. I still have flashbacks from that night." Kaya told him and placed her left arm on his shoulder.

Mark jumped as she laid a hand on his shoulder.He sighed as he remebered he was in the middle of Central Park,talking to Kaya.He looked over at her."I'm sorry to hear that."he told her.Believe it or not,he had actually heard her despite the whol encounter with the killer replaying right before his eyes."It showed me how much I really trusted them.Mac,Jo,Danny,Flack,everyone."he told her.He smiled slightly at the thought of his collegues."I actually should be at work now,but I worked overtime all last week and Mac had me sent home for the day."he told her.He smiled at the memory.Mac had told him,"I like your dedication,but you need to get some rest,go home Mark."he laughed slightly.

" Yeah it was bad and Flack sorted it out and it still spooks me what happened and he was too strong and I couldn't fight back but tried to. Mac has been a friend and a good one at that. I don't think the team knows that I'm Don's cousin though." Kaya said

"Nahhhh,I don't believe so."he told her."Mac's a very good friend.I'd trust him with anything."he told her.He smiled at this.

" I do too and same with Danny and Stella. Even Don." Kaya replied and returned the smile

Mark nodded."Ohhhh,the things Mac would say if he heard us now!"he marveled.He put on a very serious face and looked over at her."What you doing talking about me?"he asked.He then broke out of the serious face with a laugh and he looked out across the park,still laughing."Ohh,that was good,that was good!"

" He'd be shocked I think." JKaya said then laughed too

"Mac Taylor shocked???"asked Mark."That's something I've never seen!"he laughed a little more.

" Yeah I have seen him shocked once or twice but funny too." Kaya said and she laughed some more too

Mark raised an eyebrow,"I still don't believe that."he told her as he sat up straight again.He smiled and shook his head."That's really hard to believe."he continued.He now had a somewhat crocked smile on his face."I better hope Mac doesn't hear this or I won't hear the end of it!"he told her.He was interupted as his phone buzzed in his pocket.He fished it out and looked down at the phone."Look who's calling."he said as he showed her the caller id.It was Mac."I gotta take this,"he told her as he stood and flipped the phone open to answer it.

" Better not tell him about this." Kaya said and giggled when she saw the caller i.d as Mac and sh smiled and watched around her.

"Yeah,I'll be right over."......."Yeah,bye."Mark hung up with Mac and walked back over to Kaya."Look,the system's down at the lab,they need me to go see what's up,so....you wanna,maybe meet in town someplace later?"he asked her shyly.

" Yeah I'd like to." Kaya said and gave him her cell number.

"See you later!I'll call you after I'm done."he called over his shoulder as he jogged off for the lab.

He walked in the lab and was greeted by Mac."Hey!"he said as he met Mac in the lab."Sorry to have you back so early."Mac told him,a half smile crossed his face."It's no bother!"he assured him as he led the way into the lab and headed over to his computer."So,you said the system was down?"he said as he tried to get the computer to turn on with no sucess."Yeah."Mac replied as he looked up at the black projector screen."Well if we can't get any of the computors to turn on,it's gotta be the motherboard."Mark told Mac.Mark looked over the components of the board and looked down at the plugs.He reached for one plug laying on the floor and snapped it into place and checked that everything else was plugged in."Try it now Mac."he told him.Mac reached for the power button and the computer wizzed to life and information from the case came up on the screen.Mark joined him and looked down at a video tape."Security tape?"he asked Mac.Mac nodded."It wasn't plugged in."he said with a nod."You want me to run that?"he asked,getting back to the tape."Mark!"Mac told him."Don't start with me,I'm running it while I'm here."he told Mac.Mac sighed and agreed and gave Mark the rundown on the case and Mark set to it.

Kaya smiled and she then headed home and check her emails while thinking about Mark and she smiled at the thought.
